Hey, I’m Monique. And if you’re worried about your teen, I can help.

Monique Hurlin, teen coach and English tutor

As a former English teacher and certified educational and life coach, I help teens and young people to overcome difficulties and develop the confidence and mindset they need to thrive at school and at life.

Here’s How I Can Support You

My Book

As an English teacher, by far one of the most common conversations I had with parents was about why their teen wasn’t reading. In an increasingly digital world, it’s becoming more and more difficult to convince teens that reading is worth it - and they’re missing out!

So, I went straight the source: my students. I asked them why they didn’t read, what they wished their parents knew and what would actually get them to read, without any fighting.

The result? This book. I took their answers, did the research, and included stories from my classroom experience to write the ultimate guide to getting your teen to read.

My coaching services

Worried about your teen?

Maybe they’re anxious about exams or starting high school or just life in general. Maybe they’re struggling with friendships or bullying. Or your child’s confidence has all but disappeared. Or maybe you’re struggling to connect with them, where every conversation leads to a fight and you’re not sure what to do next.

Coaching can be truly transformational for teens who are going through a rough time. By giving them a safe, judgement-free space to talk, together we’ll come up with solutions that will help them thrive.

My Approach

Relationship first

Every session begins with understanding your teen as a person, and not just a set of problems to fix. I take time to build trust and explore what’s really going on beneath the surface, to fully understand how they’re experiencing school, life and themselves. It’s about coaching the person, not the problem.

Connection and presence

It’s a real honour to have the trust of a teen, an honour I take seriously. It’s vitally important to me that every teen in my care feels as though they are heard and understood, without judgement. I’ll show up fully to each session to make sure your teen feels comfortable and safe enough to share their experience.

From insight to action

Coaching often helps to create a real understanding of what’s been getting in the way and what needs to change. This creates a turning point where we turn this insight into action: small, realistic steps that help teens build confidence, shift habits and move forward in a way that feels achievable.

What Students Are Saying

“…to this day your impact on me and all your wisdom is something I will carry for the rest of my life. The fact that I can make these academic realisations by myself just shows how incredible you have been in helping me grow."

Tammy, aged 18

“I’m really happy with how I did this exam season and I can confidently say a lot of it was down to the advice and help of our coaching sessions!"
